things-that-need-mentioning

First off, our friends at The Gigcast have posted their 127th episode, so go snag it for your iPod or other portable device. This episode features an interview with the newly married Evil Emperor Nick and Amelius as well as much of the other content that’s normally delivered on the Gigcast.

Other things found on the news-o-blogs, apparently Anne Thalheimer over at Fleen is seeking reading recommendations. Be sure to throw a few her way that you read, or possibly suggest your own, you may pick up a new fan.

In more dramatic news, there has been some hullabaloo concerning the removal of genre-awards from the WCCAs. Interesting reading if you’ve got some time to kill, or you’re very annoyed (or not) with the genre-awards removal.

Meanwhile, Tyler Martin earns a little geek-cred for pointing out some LOST references in his comic. Always fun to see authors do things like that. There should be a list somewhere devoted to just that… or maybe a Scienteer feature…

Lastly, if you haven’t read Dean Trippe’s Butterfly, you’re depriving yourself of a truly well done comic. So get to reading!

Thus begins the rise of The Duck and other events

thus-begins-the-rise-of-the-duck-and-other-events

Just got this in from the awesome Skoolmunkee over at Drunk Duck.

My cooker is broken! :[

How are you? Good? That’s good. Good!

OK guys, I’ll tell you something: I’ve been naughty. I’ve had lots of PQs for newsposts for a while now and been too lazy to make the newspost.

I know, I’m a disappointment to us all. :[

So, let’s get to it, shall we? I promise to get to the point! The nominations for the Web Comics Choice Awards are out, and there’s a couple of Drunk Duckers on there! Namely The Dreamer by comic_chic, and Templar Arizona by Spike! If you’re a webcomic creator, you can register on their site to vote- so why not support your co-ducks, eh?

RDraconis is having a contest for More to Life which would be perfect for folks who like clothes and character designs - more details here!

Cake for those who turn 25, namely Organization Infinite by flapjack1995; Legend of Zelda Hyrule is Screwed by zaneeba_slave; Chuck Norris Against the World by Eduds; BLNT: Synchronicity (a prequel to the original BLNT) by blntmaker, featuring recaps and profiles!

Turning 100 are Pokemon Town by Poke Alster (and will be having dramatic changes); Cancerous AIDS by BreakElemental; Philly by Ryan McLelland, featuring a crossover with Rich Bernatovech’s Sentinels!

At 75 is MAG-ISA by kyupol; and Shades by DAJB, featuring major masked-figure plot reveals!

Ultimate X by Frogman is 150 pages old!

Turning 175 is Grin-n-Spirit by ghostrunner!

At an amazing 200 pages is Fred
Peterson The Mighty Warlord - Book 1
by LanceDanger; and The Lost Chapters of Megaman by Cryosis!

And finishing up (no more updates!) is the once-featured Commedia dell’Arte by Litindir, who has new projects on the way according to the creator comments…

Thanks Skoolmunkee! I should mention she is the duly elected DD reperesentive to The Scienteers, so we’ll be sharing their news and milestones here, so expect frequent DD updates!

Next, we have a couple of things from the inbox!

We’ve had a couple of people eager to submit their comics, so once again I’d like to direct you guys to the guidelines. In case your submissions don’t meet them. We’d like to direct you to his comics Crazy Duck and Billy Johnson and his Duck are Explorers! The comics that Crazyduck (I wonder if he likes ducks??) sent in didn’t quite match the guidelines, but we’ll plug him anyway! That’s just the sort of folks we are around here!

While we’re at it, we better promote Brynn’s deviantART page. His submission didn’t quite meet the guidelines, but his art deserves a look and I hope to see some comics of his show up!

Another DD report!

Anyhow, I’m slipping in with some PQs from my ever full PQ box! Let’s begin with milestones shall we? Shall we? Yes we shall!

Timmy And The Bleach and Growth managed to put two and five together to form 25! (Pages that is~)

A belated happy 50th pages goes to Beyond Human! (Who, might I add, has nice art!)

Avatar of Fire meanwhile should have 75 pages posted by…yesterday. >.> Guess who else reached 75 pages?

Quote:

Antcomics is fast approaching it’s 75th milestone, and to celebrate I’m doing a cameoextravaganza! Starting with strip #72, and going through to #75, cameos of my faithful fans’ characters will be appearing in the Ants’ current story arc!

If you guessed FIGHT 2 or Basketcase then you are absolutely wrong! (But have nice taste~) Please read the above again because Antcomics is doing something super cool! …Oh. I kinda gave that away. >.>

Hey! 75 times 2 is 150 and if you minus 25 you get 125 which is the milestone that Warriors of the Night reached!

Now normally we don’t announce chapters so that would mean I couldn’t say that page 37 of Tales of the Traveling Gnome is the conclusion of chapter 1. However this is actually about Matt Summers and Michelle Mayo working together for three whole years! Holy partnership Batman! <3

And welcome back For God’s Sake! Welcome back from your hiatus~ <3

Did you miss the opportunity to contribute to Fowl Play the first time around? Fear not! You can do one of two things:
1. Go buy a copy of Fowl Play!
2. Go contribute to the second issue of Fowl Play by PQing Aussie Kid

Finally we end our beloved night with one last piece of news from Will~

sIRC has reached 100th pages! <3

Will also want to stress to everyone that the #drunkduck chatroom is always welcoming people. Their goal has always been to get more people into the #drunkduck chatroom. There might have been some misunderstanding and banning due to misconduct so:

Quote:

I just want to stress this: our ops are in no way banhappy, they enforce the rules to the best of their abilities, and are generally good natured and fun people. if you get banned, there is always a reason, first time bans are always temporary.

DD Redesign and other news.

dd-redesign-and-other-news

Drunk Duck rolled out a new layout today, and there are two major problems I have with it. One, it just doesn’t look that good and two, there are still a lot of problems with it. The header has a huge gap in it for example. That being said, the large icons are nice, and I like the collapsible sidebar. Too bad you can’t seem to make a sidebar category stay open once you decide you want to keep it open. Also, lack of site news on the main-page is a bit annoying. News can be found in the collapsible sidebar, only once again, it keeps closing between pages of the site. Overall, it feels a bit like a step in the WRONG direction. Essentially, a couple of good ideas completely overwritten by a clunky and incomplete layout, hopefully some changes will be made soon.

However, there is some other news, first of all, Scienteer Rémi Perron wants me to mention that SCUD is back. Not entirely webcomic-related from what I can tell, but it’s still a comic and we’re all about the art form around here.

Finally, we have this:

The two-pronged trident of historical buffoonery at www.ftg-comic.com known
as The Count and Geoff, would like the world to know that they have managed
to produce 100 full episodes of farcical time-travelical foppery.

As of February 7th 2008, “Frederick the Great: A Most Lamentable Comedy
Breaching Time and Space” has joined the ranks of the triple-digited.

Since Frederick updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the 100th episode will
be on the main page all weekend long.

–Geoff

So, as we lead into the weekend, maybe we’ll get some more happenings to report?

Trawling the soupy seas of webcomics for news.

First off, we have some DD news!

First of all, an apology for not having a new featured comic up. Something about the new main page design isn’t bringing up the comics we’ve put in, so… I suppose a new comic will be up as soon as it’s fixed, or whenever
we can pester Volte enough so he’ll do it manually. :) Meanwhile, have you checked out the ones already featured?

Secondly, about the new main page design - there’s a thread in the forums about it, so if you’ve something to say about it, you can do so there!

Thirdly, a bit of an oversight by me in my previous newspost - Crowfeathers is also on Drunk Duck, and is up for two WCCAs! Good luck to all DDers!

There’s not a feed up on the main page right now for The Gigcast, but just so you guys know, our very own SuperFogeys have been interviewed on Feb 7th, and on Feb 1 they interviewed Amelius of Charby the Vampirate and her husband, Evil Emperor Nick of a bunch of stuff! You can catch both of them on the Gigcast’s page!

Also, NightGig is putting out a book!

Seelinkrun11’s comic Mystery World has reached 100 pages! Congratulations!

MOSAIC by SomaX turned 1 year old today!

Chernobog’s comic Schizophrenia Bloom has reached 50 pages!

Mr Mustard Seed wrote:

Nothing like crossing a milestone to help work up a thirst. Twenty-five postings ago the comic strip TWITCH! began taking shape on Twonks & Plonkers. Hoist a pint of your favorite brew as you follow the adventures of Goffer, Albie A. Mann, Munch, and Mr. Tally while they turn and burn their way through new laughs on their way to #50 and
beyond.

Thanks Skoolmunkee! You’re a credit to educated simians everywhere!

Next, David Gallaher is frequently become the BEST FRIEND SCIENCE CAN EVER ASK FOR.

Let’s read his latest e-mail shall we?

Dear Awesome The Scienteers,

I thought I would take a moment to direct  you to this post where webcomic author and mastermind behind IN HIS LIKENESS talks about one of his influences:
http://www.inhislikeness.com/2008/02/04/hatton-influence-part-i-henson/#comments

Also, I thought your Drunk Duck post was pretty awesome, and I agree about the interface. It’s a bit of a mess, which is ashame, because they have some solid content. I would be very interested in you thoughts on Zuda’s new February contestants, especially since webcomic ACT-I-VATEr Kevin Colden (the madman behind FISHTOWN) is doing a strip this month.

I’m really a big fan of the site- and totally keen on what you guys will be doing with it!

All the best,
David Gallaher

Keep the news coming folks, we’re doing pretty well now. We’re getting mentions on Fleen, Journalista and Comixtalk! David’s e-mail does make me wonder about doing webcomic reviews on here. Maybe we’ll do a Zuda feature for each new batch. That is, if the site will load for me. I have quite a few complaints with the Zuda site, maybe I should start a series of articles where I complain then, huh?

A duck-load of news.

a-duck-load-of-news

Oh wow, heck of a DD news update today. So much news we’re going to have to insert a cut!

So, first bit from our talented friend Skoolmunkee:

So today I place in the forums for you all to read, an interview with
LowResAtari. He and I have a bit of a talk about sprite comics!

Quote:

What types of things help a sprite comic stand out from the pack?
This is going to sound kind of weird talking about this particular subject, but original ideas are the best things you can have for getting noticed. Random comics, “Let’s all fight for absolutely no reason” comics, and massive cameo comics are among the things you’d want to avoid if you don’t want someone to roll their eyes and move onto something else.

You can read the rest in this forum thread!

The rest below the cut!

More news that you can shake a duck at.

Hello! I am knitting!

Well, not this second. My hands can only do a couple things at a time.

New stuff going on in the Networking and Community forum! SkylerVane has started a group of ‘On Demand’ threads where people can advertise their services and basically get on a list of talented people who are willing to do stuff. For example, someone who is looking to write sci-fi stories can put themselves on the Writers on D mand list, and then if an artist comes along and wants someone to write a sci-fi story for them… tada! These aren’t Help Wanted threads though- these are the threads where the Help Wanted people should check first. :) So, there’s
Writers On Demand, Artists on Demand, Audio On Demand, and there will shortly be a ‘Miscellaneous On Demand’! Check them out and sign up if you’re willing to help out! These aren’t just for comics either- it can be for any creative project!

sukaiyume’s Light has recently reached 200 pages! Congrats, that’s a huge accomplishment!

Man-Boys! My favorite kind of boys! Has reached 50 comics! It’s by Ed Comics!

ifelldownthestairs’s I Fell Down The Stairs is I fell down the stairs 250 comics old I fell down the stairs! (If you were 250 wouldn’t you fall down the stairs?) Sadly, within the next few weeks the comic Knight Me by jissai will be ending. :[ Now’s your chance to read it before it’s over!

Rusty Knight tells me that The Election for Mayor of The City (it was a contest) is over! The mayor has just been announced on the comic which means you can see the results by visiting Soda Bread! He’d also like to thank ShutupDangit, Pit_Face, Lemon_King, Vakanai, Bocaj, and Locoma for their participation!

Star Cross’d Destiny’s first chapter is now available for FREE download here on WOWIO where you can see it in awesome full color goodness along with brand-spankin’ new content!

Thanks Skoolmunkee!

As of today, Mr Teacher by is 25 pages old! Yay!

Also at 25 pages is leaderofstars’s random ass friday comics! It turned 25 on the 27th though and that was a Wednesday? But isn’t it called ‘Friday’ comics…? :3

Avatar of Fire by mattwandcow (what’s a ‘wandcow’?) has reached 100 pages! Awesome!

Don’t forget about the On Demand threads!

Thanks for sharing Skoolmunkee!
