New Drunk Duck Creator Interview is up!

It’s a long one this time- I asked the same questions of 4 creators who have an overweight character in their comic. It’s quite interesting to read, in my opinion! Especially when it comes to where and why their answers differ! So this week’s interview features:

IronSpike of Templar, Arizona, dueeast of Due East, heymelby of Chad the Fat Kid, and TitanOne of Aurora of the High Seas

Quote:

How important to the comic is it that your main character is
overweight? Are you trying to send any messages or attitudes about weight
with your comic?
It’s significant to point out Sapphira is not the main character, the whole Hu family is as well as Carolyn Maye. Yes, one of the main characters is fat/plus-sized but perhaps only because she is not the negative stereotype of a fat young woman. If we are trying to send any messages about weight, it’s basically “look, these are real-looking people, like people you may know. They don’t judge each other based on their weight.” And it’s good to have examples in front of you that demolish stereotypes. That’s what breaks down barriers, seeing people as they are, not as the stereotypes that define prejudice. When you get to know people and see that they have lives and red blood, just like you or I, it makes it harder to see them as some stereotype.

Visit the forum thread to read it all!

crifmer’s Posted has just hit 25 comics! He’d like to thank all the people still reading. :)
The very cool [blood/hound] by TheMidge28 will post its 50th page tomorrow!

Also turning 50 this week is Pokemon Sinnoh Surfer by Walrus! The 50th comic will start out as the first page of book 2 in the 10-book series!

poonipoonz’s Animania has reached an awesome high of 150 pages!

It’s always good to hear from David, thanks man, keep up the good work!

Next we have some DD News from Skoolmunkee:

Sub-Standard Comics by OrionPax6 (how many comics are out there with self-depreciating names like that? Come on guys, comics are awesome!) has reached 175 pages! Wooo!

HalJones has a comic named Beyond Human and it has reached 75 pages today! It’s great, check it out!

The Uncanny Uper Dave by Bittenbymonk will reached 100 pages on Friday! I have to admit that ‘uper’ is a more fun word to say than ’super’…

Drunk Duck Creator Interviews Extravaganza continues! (If you dunno what that is, click here.

Today’s interview is of Seventy2 of Ninja Wedding and The Good Life, conducted by Bocaj of Laughing Out Loud Zombies, Guy in a Dinosaur Costume, and others!

Quote: How much time does it take for you to draw a comic?

“I take about 5 minutes to decide what I want on the paper, then I leave. I come back a couple hours later, and spend about 1-2 hours doing the initial drawing. Then it sits on the table for ever. Then the night before, I ink it and shade it in about 1-1/2 hours. So total it’s like 3-4 hours. Or like 5 days.”

Read the rest of the interview in its thread in the Interviews forum!

Lastly, I know the updates have been a bit slow lately, and not really encompassing as much of the webcomic scene as we should be doing. I’ll do my best to keep up more. If you’re a reader of the blog and would like to help, please send us any-news you find, big or small. Thank you.

A day late and a duck duck report short.

Wow, I’ve been neglecting my duties! Well, not really, computer problems and all that. Anyway, some drunk duck news from Skoolmunkee! Brace for impact!

Today’s featured comic is Opey the Warhead!

It’s Opey’s first day at school and he’s a little nervous. Not because hi sdad seems to be a real weirdo who gives bad advice, or because the city he lives in (which he’s never seen before) is some sort of manic psudo-future populated with robots and clones… but because he’s afraid the other kids won’t like him. You actually feel bad for the poor guy as he realizes people are afraid of him because he looks like a bomb. Fun, absurd, sad, and smart- oh and it looks nice too.

dd-report

OK guys, the last of the community interviews has been posted! Sorry it’s up a bit late today, my internet wasn’t working until a few minutes ago. :)
Today’s interview is of Rutger (Arthur King, Life as Told by Rutger, and Sketching Reality), and conducted by Vakanai (Rumbles, Rumbles Late Night)!
Quote:

Which comic style, sprite or non-sprite, do you prefer?

I prefer non-sprite, mainly because you can do whatever you want with the characters. Spriting is fast and easy to do, but the characters are always in the same position. It gives for a nice challenge, because you have to make them look like they’re doing whatever it is in the comic, but if you need a completely different position, you’d either have to create a sprite from scratch or heavily alter the ones you’ve got. With ‘normal’ art, you can just draw your character any way you want.

Read the rest of this interview in its thread, or visit the forum to read the previous 9!

Milestones!

harleydane999 tells me that Necrolupus has just gone past the 50-page milestone! Yay!

Zorphbert and Fred by Dawn is hitting #150! Don’t forget to swing by, word is there’s something special!

Special thanks, as always, to Skoolmunkee.

Well well, what have we here? I do believe it’s more interviews from the Quack With the Ducks project! You really should be reading these, you know- they can all be found in the Interviews forum! They are all pretty awesome so far! (New ones over the weekend: kiandranishan interviews AQua_ng, spiritmonkey interviews n_y_japlander, patrickdevine interviews Steely Gaze, and Iba interviews kiandranishan!)

It hasn’t gotten as much attention here on DD this year, but Small Press Idol is going on and we have a DDer who has made it to Round 2! Nibbi could use your support with The Stupendous Adventures of Spud!

Hey dudes and dudettes, if you missed participating in Off Hours the first time around, now is your chance to get a little piece of the action!
More info here!

scruffykitty has a contest going on which ends May 1st, maybe you should enter before it’s too late, HMMMMMM? Bunch of procrastinators, all of you!

Iba’s Last Words will be 150 comics old on the 30th (that’s Wednesday). That’s an awful lot of ‘last words’ mister, I’d hate to be waiting by your deathbed. T_T

ninja3 tells me that The Cat and Mouse Game has reached its 25th comic! It’s pretty, go look at it!

Also reaching 25 pages is Serai by ReincarnatedParano (which I constantly misread as Reincarnated Potato)!

Electronic Revolutions: The Burnhams by simonitro is about to reach its 100th page mark! Added to that, after the current issue, he’ll be taking a short hiatus from The Burnhams and Billy Learns to Rock but will have some promos of his upcoming comic ‘Gunslinger Witch’!

Jimeth would like to say that Epic Adventures has reached 200 pages “finally”! And that the second 100 is way harder than the first, apparently. :)

JustNoPoint DOES in fact have a point, and it’s this: The Devon Legacy reaches 200 pages on Tuesday! also, “Just around… um… around 60 more pages left of Prologue remaining! @_@ But the action is about to get INTENSE!!!”

@_@ ¬_¬ ^_^ +_+ ‘_’ *_*
