First- I’m not going to be here for the next week, so until next Thursday, send any news etc to ozoneocean or Spang! or Black_Kitty!

Hey folks, we’ve got a new bug on the site (fun!) as of last Thursday where people in Japan, and some in Canada, can’t view images on Drunk Duck at all whatsoever. Awesome! I’ve done all I can but there’s no word on what the problem is or when it will be fixed. So, to all comic owners who think they have readers in Japan and/or Canada, you might want to mirror your new comic images on Photobucket, Imagesocket, or etc. If you put a link to that image in your author’s comment, then those people can click it and see your comic. I’d also advise any affected people in Japan or Canada to send a PQ or leave a comment on the comics you’re missing out on, asking them to do this (because not everyone reads the news anymore).

There’s also a forum thread that is the major keeping-track place of the situation.

Don’t forget that the Comic Book Challenge is still going on… time is running out! The entry deadline is May 31st!

Did you notice there was a new Creator Interview up on Monday? Well there was! It is from heymelby of Chat the Fat Kid!

The Comic Review forum has been moving really slow lately- lots of people want reviews, but not so many want to do them! It’s not very fair to expect the same 6-8 people to do all the reviews all the time, is it? I know I’d get burned out. Why don’t you head over and help out a bit? You might find a comic you like, and you might even LEARN something (if you’re so inclined)! Plus, once you’ve done a few reviews yourself, you can sign up to get your own comic reviewed!

j giar’s SoulDriver (you know, the one that was featured) is now available as a free download from WOWIO! It’s FREE! I think you should get it! Go here!

Xolta, an adult comic that is truly not intended for readers under 18, reaches 175 pages on Friday. The comic also just ended the first book Xolta: Genesis and is starting the next book, coincidentally called Exodus (and I might even try adding a plot this time). And to help celebrate the new book and milestone, there are 3 possible covers for the Exodus book that folks can vote on (posted on Monday). Thanks!

Bryan Lee O’Malley vs Tokyopop

bryan-lee-omalley-vs-tokyopop

Bryan Lee O’Malley’s livejournal is a fantastic thing to check up on. The guy behind Scott Pilgrim has all sorts of insights to publishing, and it’s fun to read his page commentaries and on the progress of the film adpatation. By Edgar Wright no less! If you’re not following it, you’re a damn fool.

Long story short, if Bryan says something, you gotta at least give it a look, that’s why I’m posting this. Not exactly “webcomic” related, but this is for anyone interested in publishing.

I am opposed to the publisher Tokyopop.

They have this new Manga Pilot program. It’s a thing where you come up with a great idea, you toil over it and create a 24-36 page comic, they put it online with a bunch of other submissions, and “the people” decide who wins. Or, y’know, whatever.

The contract for this fun deal is horrible, draconian, ridiculous. It’s like Satan wrote it. I can’t believe Tokyopop is getting away with this in broad daylight.

Click the angry kitty to continue the read. It’s a lot of good information.

Monday’s featured comic is Guts!

Military and psychic rescue teams arrive too late to save Lancelot unit, who are found gruesomely dead in a mansion infested with paranormal dangers. It doesn’t take long for them to realize they’re in way over their heads…. Compelling storyline and amazingly detailed art will remind you of Hellboy and Guy Davis’s BPRD work. The black-and-white style is a treat to look at, and you should see the color pages!

Milestones!

Nepath (sounds kind of Egyptian doesn’t it?) has a superhero community project named Heroes Unite, and on Thursday it’s reaching 50 pages! 50 pages is pretty awesome for a community comic so go have a look!

At 100 pages we have mlai’s FIGHT, which I strongly reccommend everyone check out! I’d have featured it a long time ago if we could feature fan works…

Also at 100 pages we have Times Like This by PyThomas, which will be posted on Tuesday! Congrats! Man if I had a hundred ANYthing I’d be happy…

ANOTHER comic at 100 pages (so many industrious comic-makers!) is newgirlcomic’s New Girl! These guys have made a big achievement with 100 comics, I think they deserve some people stopping by to see what they’ve got!

And one last publishing-related announcement from houseofmuses (creator of House of the Muses, among other projects)!

Pride Festival 2008 Inventory Already Sold Out!

I’m making lemonade out of lemons re: the Pride Festival book selling nix. A local comic shop is selling some of my books for me AND he wants to sell for me any Prism Comics 2008 Guides I have left over from Pride, plus I’m sending out complimentary copies to the local LGBT youth groups and PFLAG in our area.
I’m at an awkward age in my book publishing process at this time. My series is growing in popularity but not hugely—I had 60 books of issues #1 and #2 to sell at Pride Festival this year but was informed on Thursday that I could not, I’d need to pay for a commercial booth. I thought, nuts to them, I need to move these books.

As of now, Saturday, I am almost sold out.

I WILL be appearing at Kentuckiana Pride Festival this year, tho, representing Prism Comics. If any of you are in the area and mention seeing this bulletin on DrunkDuck.com, I’ll have some autographed copies of House of the Muses #1 and #2 tucked under the table.

In the meantime, the fastest way to buy installments of my graphic novel miniseries is here:

Today’s featured comic is Simply Sarah!

Meet Sarah, a girl who is constantly under pressure from her family to find a boy and fall in love with him. Just one problem- she fancies girls. What’s Sarah to do? Her new friend Janey invites her out for some fun, but Sarah can hardly enjoy it as the entire time she’s wondering whether she should tell Janey how much she really likes her… unfortunately romance isn’t the only thing in her life that is difficult for Sarah.

The comic Leo by alexhatzia has just ended, which I find very sad as I featured it two weeks ago and I thought it would be going a bit longer! However, now that you know it’s a good comic and you know it’s a complete story, I think you should definitely check it out!

From Anubis of Blood Bound, we are told that the print version of Blood Bound Vol.2 is now available, and also that Sassy (the comic’s succubus) will soon be getting her own clothing label!

—-

Man-Boys! by Brett at Ed Comics, which you may have thought was on hiatus, is back now and has posted its 75th page! They’ve also recently published their first 31st strips in an ash-can comic book size, and you can purchase it at their home site!

—-

ReincarnatedPotato (oops, I mean Parano) tells me that Serai has just reached 50 pages! Congrats!

—-

Stickman and Cube by Pieguy259 has reached a big 175 comics! He says that achievement was “against insuperable odds” so I guess we better congratulate him, huh? :)

And lastly, smkinoshita of Super Temps decided he was gonna interview me, which was very nice of him, but I bet he’s sorry now because I talked a lot and didn’t give up any good admin dirt. However, please visit the interview and tell smkinoshita what great questions he asked (because he did) and that his snarky comments on my answers have improved the whole thing immensely! :) smkinoshita interviews skoolmunkee

Monday’s featured comic is Awakenings!

In the relatively near future, a policeman agrees to assit on a difficult and disturbing case, chasing a brutal criminal that has eluded him before. But how does this lead to him murdering his own son…? Professional level art will draw you in, but the compelling story will make you stay.
Visit Awakenings

nibbi has finished 2nd in Round 3 of Small Press Idol with his comic “The Stupendous Adventures of Spud”, which means his comic is now in Round 4 and is available for sale! Every person who <a href=”http://www.dimestoreproductions.com/content27.html
“>purchases a copy of the comic counts as a vote - so if you want to see nibbi succeed, or if you like comics about stupendous adventures and/or spuds, get going!

Brother Zag’s Panthea Obscura reached 50 pages on Saturday!

A Call to Destiny Reloaded (nsfw!) by Dumok is now at 25 pages!

I’ve updated the Big Community Projects Thread so be sure to swing by and check out the new ones (or old ones!) and see if there’s any you’d like to participate in! Most notably, Quack With the Ducks is going to start its 3rd round, and Tired Comics is still gladly accepting submissions!
