Ten Questions: Tom Brazelton of Theater Hopper

  1. Go on, pitch Theater Hopper to our readers.
Theater Hopper is the Internet’s longest-running movie-themed webcomic and it’s all about making fun of the newest releases from the audience perspective - what people really think about the plots of big movies and small independent features, the movie-going experience, celebrity worship - the whole nine yards. All fertile ground for comedy! (more…)

I want you to recommend webcomics.

i-want-you-to-recommend-webcomics

Recently I had some computer trouble. Resulting on me reinstalling Windows XP. I saved a lot of stuff on my second drive, so Cosmic Dash’s update schedule won’t suffer. However I did lose all my webcomic bookmarks. So, how about you guys recommend some comics for me to bookmark?

All you need to do is post the comics you think I should bookmark in this entry’s comments. Maybe I’ll find something new I’ve not seen otherwise.

As a bonus, I’ll also likely use any comics linked in these comments as future featured comments. So please, comment away.

Dear Zuda, your system sucks.

I'm pissed dammit!

No, I’m not talking about what people generally would talk about when it comes to Zuda, how they select comics to run on the site, the current rotation of comics seeking attention, or any of those types of things. No. I am going to rant about the technical aspects of the site and why their comic-browser is killing my interest in their site.

I don’t think there is nearly enough criticism of Zuda’s method for displaying comics. The flash player is absolutely terrible and kind of implies that the people behind it have no idea how important usability and simple navigation is to a webcomic site. Why is the webcomic site model virtually unchanged across so many webcomics? It’s because it’s a good model, functional, and the best we have. Zuda’s method is totally against what webcomics should be.

Orphaned Works Legislation

orphaned-works-legislation

This was just brought to my attention from a friend. Apparently, there is some new and in-the-works legislation concerning orphaned works. Naturally, one must take this with a grain of salt, as this seems very scary for creators everywhere.

Photos on the internet could be orphaned. With tens of millions of photos shared online with services like Flickr, Shutterfly and Snapfish, there is a huge opportunity for unauthorized use of your photos… legally.

The Equation of Webcomic Success

Monday, April 14th, 2008
the-equation-of-webcomic-success

I am in no way a big fan of math (probably my worst subject in high-school) however I do find math to be interesting in how important it is to nearly everything in life. While this is every bit of tongue-in-cheek I can muster, it doesn’t mean this can’t be a fun experiment. Thus, I am trying to devise a mathematical formula for the potential success of a webcomic. Needless to say, some of the numbers you could plug into the equation are based on personal feelings and will be highly subjective and don’t reflect any actual, inherent, value.
